| | An artist inspired by a nurse to give postcard-sized photos for an auction that raised funds for her hospice.
Gillian Alderton (62), wanted to raise funds for South Oxfordshire Palliative Care hub and Sue Ryder Duchess Kent Hospice in Reading. An online silent auction of the 69 "mini masterpieces" that resulted will start on Monday and run for two weeks. Mrs Alderton said financial support for the hospice and the hub "fell dramatically" when Sue Ryder charity shops closed and fundraising events were cancelled because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
A postcard-sized miniature painting was requested by friends, local artists and their families. With bids starting from PS10, 70 paintings using acrylic, watercolour, and lino prints were up for grabs. Mrs Alderton herself is an amateur artist and also asked her son Chris Alderton (guitarist in the rock band The Amazons) to send her a piece of artwork.
There are still many people out there whose health is in jeopardy due to other serious illnesses. The symbol of trust and loyalty is the elephant," she explained. "This is our team. We have been paying attention to instructions given by all, including the government, our parents and bosses.
Furthermore, we didn't allow ourselves to get tempted with friends or loved ones.
